After turning 19 she made the move into Los Angeles to pursue her acting profession. To make ends meet, Handler began to work as an actor. Handler at the time was just 21 years old and decided to pursue stand-up comedy as a full-time occupation when she discovered her story telling skills. At the beginning of her career Handler began her journey as part of the Oxygen network's all-female cast of a hidden camera/practical joke reality show on TV called Girls Behaving in a Bad Way. The show ran between 2002 and 2005. Handler was also featured in various programs, including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began her work as an associate to The Tonight Show. Handler's biggest breakthrough was in 2006, as she began hosting her program on E! It was titled The Chelsea Show. Chelsea Handler's Show lasted for two seasons. In the following year, Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour in the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all aired her stand-up performances. In 2010 it was announced that she was to host this year's MTV Video Music Awards. She was the only woman to ever host VMAs following Roseanne Bar.
